Icelandic band KALEO delivered a wonderful show with their Payback Tour in a sold-out AFAS Live in Amsterdam. With a mix of raw blues rock, atmospheric ballads and grand anthems, the musicians managed to completely captivate the audience. A beautiful evening of music.
KALEO opened the evening powerfully with the new song USA Today. Frontman Jökull Júlíusson, with his characteristic cowboy hat and beautifully lived-in voice, immediately set the tone. The critical and compelling song touched the audience from the first note and gave a foretaste of the emotional journey that was yet to come.
The concert offered a perfect balance between raw energy and intimate moments. The dark Break My Baby and the nostalgic All The Pretty Girls showed the versatility of the band. While the blues rock songs made the adrenaline flow through the audience, the acoustic pieces brought the audience to silence. The band knows better than anyone how to build their setlist to continuously captivate the audience.
The beautiful melodic Vor í Vaglaskógi enchanted Jökull with a guitar in the colours of the Icelandic flag. The deeply emotional Way Down We Go was an absolute highlight. The intensity with which the band performed this song caused a collective goosebump moment, enhanced by a captivating light show. The audience clapped and sang along at the top of their lungs, creating a unique synergy between band and fans.
KALEO closed the evening with a series of bangers. The powerful No Good and an explosive encore with Backdoor and Rock ’n’ Roller brought the energy in the room to a climax. The rousing rhythms and raw guitar parts showed why KALEO is such a phenomenal experience live.
Volcanic passion – The one and a half hour show was proof of the unprecedented passion and musical craftsmanship of KALEO. Whether it is a quiet song or a heavy rock track, they play it with conviction. KALEO remains a band that you must have seen live at least once. If they come to the Netherlands again, you cannot miss it!
