The Avishai Cohen Trio thrilled the audience with their own compositions and arrangements through a pulsating mix of contemporary jazz and traditional songs.
Avishai Cohen on the double bass is considered a jazz visionary and innovator of the last twenty-five years and has earned a reputation as one of the greatest bassists of his time.
He leaned over his instrument with joy and expressiveness and amazed the audience with his nimble grip on the scale, the plucking and the rhythmic beats on the instrument. His bass playing exuded warmth, embraced and gave the listener a clear orientation again and again.
He used catchy melodies to break up more complex musical passages and repeatedly led the way to pianist Guy Moskovich (27), who touched the audience with wonderful solos but always remained discreet. Moskovich is another highly talented representative of the young Israeli jazz scene and has been completing the ensemble for three years.
The outstanding drummer, producer and songwriter Roni Kaspi, who is only 23 years old, has always amazed with her changes of tempo, creative solos and sophisticated technique. The Israeli jazz musician Roni Kaspi has been on tour with Avishai Cohen since 2020.
At the drumeo Awards, she was named Jazz Drummer of the Year in 2023, which underlines her exceptional talent and ability. Almost standing and highly concentrated, she served the constantly changing groove and drove the trio on, making it a highlight of the evening.
The trio was fantastically attuned to one another and impressed with their joy of playing. The result was an intoxicating musical experience that the audience honored with a standing ovation. The trio rounded off the evening, which also marked the end of their tour, with three wonderful encores.
As an encore, Avishai Cohen sang a Ladin love song, which was sensitively accompanied by his pianist, and sent the enthusiastic audience off into the night feeling inspired.
